East Meets Lazy

I've been living like a lazy bachelor and not cooking much these last few months but today I roused myself to cook an impromptu lunch. I've been taking advantage of the great farmers market that is held Tuesdays just a few blocks from my residence and getting some really great produce.

I simply sauteed crimini mushrooms with garlic and onion then tossed in spinach and basil at the end with a mix of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and sugar. Surprisingly it needed more salt, because the spinach was greedy for it, and a little olive oil at the end added depth of flavor and a better mouth feel. I spooned this mix over some hot pasta and that was it. I think I'll add some red pepper flakes next time but this definitely made for a vegetarian dish you would never miss the meat in.

This looks and sounds tantalizing! It's wonderful having incredible produce from local farmers. I visited a farm in Monroe on Sunday and couldn't believe how much I got for such little money. It feels and tastes good to support and eat locally grown food.

Now, I'm ready for lunch :)

Oh Dear Lord God....you have a blog dedicated entirely to F O O D ???? Be still my heart! I absolutely LOVE food...the way it looks, the way it smells, the way it tastes, creating dishes that affect all senses. I never understand-and I feel sorry for-people who only order the same thing over and over again at a restaurant, or who only go to one restaurant for 7 years. And if you have a vegetable on your plate, they think you are an "exotice" eater. I will definitely be back to your blog. Your photos are beautiful and I love the way you describe your dishes and why you pair certain foods or spices together.

That's great, thank you both for your comments. I'll be trying to post more often, I've been food blogging just for my own enjoyment but it's great some people are starting to notice and appreciate my efforts!
